DR. MATEUSZ CHATYS
Dr. Mateusz Chatys is a senior specialist at the Centre for Asian Affairs at the University of Lodz in Poland. His work centers on Sino-American rivalry in Southeast Asia, with a particular focus on the South China Sea disputes. His doctoral dissertation explored the patron-client concept in China’s peripheral diplomacy, using China’s relations with Vietnam, Malaysia, and the Philippines as case studies. Currently, his research analyzes China’s gray zone operations and the responses of other claimant states, especially the Philippines, since Rodrigo Duterte’s presidency.
