DR. CHIEW PING HOO

Dr. Chiew-Ping Hoo is Co-founder and Senior Fellow of the East Asian International Relations Caucus (EAIR Caucus) in Malaysia and a Senior Research Fellow at the Yokosuka Council on Asia-Pacific Studies (YCAPS). She is concurrently a member of the Asia Pacific Nuclear Advisory Panel (APNAP) at the British American Security Information Council (BASIC), an expert roster of the Open Nuclear Network (ONN), and an Editorial Board Member for the Routledge IR and Politics in Asia book series. Dr. Hoo is recognized for her expertise on the Korean Peninsula, Malaysia’s foreign and defense policies, and regional nuclear-strategic issues. Her work on maritime security focuses specifically on Malaysia’s strategic posture regarding the South China Sea and the intersection between regional nuclear energy development and the maritime domain. Additionally, her broader research covers conflict management and maritime disputes among China, Japan, and South Korea, as well as the evolution of naval cooperation throughout the Indo-Pacific. Currently, she is examining nuclear-maritime security linkages across the Korean Peninsula, the Taiwan Strait, and maritime Southeast Asia. She received her PhD in Politics and International Relations from La Trobe University, Australia.
