KATARZYNA SYPIEŃ

Katarzyna Sypień is a PhD candidate in Security Studies at the Doctoral School in the Social Sciences, Jagiellonian University in Kraków. Her research examines how global environmental and climate-related processes are politically translated into public policies in Southeast Asia, with particular attention to global governance, non-traditional security, climate adaptation, food security, fisheries governance and the political relevance of polar-region processes for Asian countries. She holds an M.A. in International Relations and B.A. degrees in International Relations and Intellectual Property and New Media from the Jagiellonian University. She conducted a four-month NAWA-funded research stay at VNU University of Social Sciences and Humanities in Hanoi, where she carried out expert interviews and source searches related to climate adaptation and environmental governance in Vietnam. Her research has been presented at international conferences including IPSA, ACUNS, UACES, CEPSA, IAFOR, Global Social Nexus and IPSA RC44/RC52 events. She is a member of the International Political Science Association (IPSA), the Academic Council on the United Nations System (ACUNS), the University Association for Contemporary European Studies (UACES) and the Association of Polar Early Career Scientists (APECS). Her broader academic interests include Southeast Asian regional politics, environmental security, climate-risk translation, global governance and the politics of adaptation in the Global South.
